15 years!!

Thanks so much to everyone who joined us for the 15th and final ‘Let The Good Times Roll …’ . Many of the dancers had been coming from the very beginning and others had only missed a few. And at the same time there was a dancer for whom this was her first ever workshop and she said she had a wonderful time! Hopefully over the years we have managed to convey our love of line dance whatever the level or music choice, friendship and camaraderie on the dance floor as well as the belief that our dancin’ should be fun!

Our guest instructors Christine Wilde and Carolyn Beer did a terrific job, Christine started off the afternoon with two dances everyone could relax and enjoy and Carolyn ended with the challenge of the day. Fred and I both had a go at teaching as well. Our final ‘Blast From The Past’ was ‘Good Times’. Fred and I wrote this for the first year of LTGTR so it seemed fitting to end with it. A youtube video of the dance was uploaded as recently as 3 months ago so it is still going strong. In between we had plenty of open dance and Fred did a great job as DJ with the floor full most of the day.

During the day dancers bought tickets for the basket raffle which raised $450 for Sick Kids Hospital. Dale did an amazing job again of creating beautiful baskets. The 50/50 raised the largest amount ever and one lucky dancer went home with $274 in her pocket and then won the second prize .. a comp pass for Dancin’ For Miracles (many thank to Valarie Keller) and the third prize was a comp pass to Bobby Chong’s LD Fundraiser in March. The $274 will go to the Line Dance Foundation.

For the first time we had an outside caterer for our meal and it was really excellent. If you ever need a caterer I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Toula Nikolo of Oak Park Deli.    Email me for her contact information. We had chicken parmesan (the meat was thick, juicy, tender and so tasty!) stuffed peppers for the vegetarians — thumbs up from them all, pasta penne, two types of salads, garlic bread, chocolate cake for dessert. Toula will be catering for ‘The Spring Workshop’, so look forward to more good food then!

As always our volunteers/good friends were wonderful. They lifted, carried, made coffee, brought up ice, checked people in and helped with the myriad of activities that are needed behind the scenes to ensure that an event runs smoothly. And then although I am sure they were exhausted they helped with the clean-up at the end of the evening. Our thanks to them all, we couldn’t have run this event for 15 years without them.

And to you the dancers, we appreciate each and everyone. We know there are lots of demands on your time and lots of events to attend but you still chose to attend ‘Let The Good Times Roll ..’ You have helped create some wonderful memories for us and we will be reminiscing about them for many years to come. Hopefully many of you will come to ‘The Spring Workshop’ with Maggie, but if not we do hope we will see you on another dance floor at some point in the not distant future. Keep well and keep dancin’!

October 21 — Time to say Goodbye

Let the Good Times Roll …. 15th Anniversary — October 21

Fred, Eddie and I have had a ball with this event and can hardly believe it is 15 years since the auspicious first year! We certainly didn’t think we would still be going 15 years later. However, we have decided that now is the time to say goodbye to ‘Let The Good Times Roll …’

I can’t tell you how much we appreciate the dancers who have joined us over the years, some have attended every single year and often from a distance. Also, of course, our dear friends who have taken on numerous chores, from filling water jugs, moving furniture, checking people in and so on. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Many thanks to everyone who has already registered for this year’s event. If you are thinking of doing so note that the discount deadline is September 21.

Don’t worry though, ‘The Spring Workshop’ will continue … on April 14 2018 with Maggie in Estonian House and the date has been set for April 27 2019 back to the Thornhill Community Centre. Fred and Eddie will be able to dance, relax and socialize as DJ Adam will be taking over the DJ Booth!

Looking forward to seeing many of you soon for a 15th Celebration and Goodbye!

Happy dancin’!

Flyer & Registration Form 2017 now here!

We hope you will join us to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of ‘Let The Good Times Roll’.  There will be a major change this year in that we will be offering a buffet dinner by a highly recommended caterer.   The Legion Ladies who have served us for many years could no longer manage it, but I think this will be a good alternative.

Many thanks to Carolyn Beer and Christine Wilde for agreeing to be our Guest Instructors along with Fred and myself; the ‘Blast From The Past Instructor’ will be announced later.

Come sparkling and lit up for the Evening Dance!!!!

Hope to see you there …. LET’S CELEBRATE 15 years of dancin’ together.

As many of you know Fred recently had a knee replacement. He gamely DJd the afternoon session but had to go home afterwards. Cynthia Skublak stepped in and did a great job of DJing with Eddie. Many many thanks to Cynthia Skublak, what a good friend she is,

As always we do some fund raising. The 50/50 will go to the Ontario Chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation and raised $172 thanks to the generosity of Margo Cameron who donated a portion of her winnings back to the pot. Thanks for Valarie Keller who donated a complimentary pass to Dancin’ For Miracles 2017.

The Basket Raffle was as always impressive thanks to dedicated Dale McNeil who collects items for the baskets all year round and then makes up the baskets which look terrific, thanks also to everyone who donates these items. $350 was raised for Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.

Next year will be the 15th anniversary of ‘Let The Good Times Roll ….’ and we are going to have a PARTY!!! I received some great suggestions on how we can celebrate and if you have any other suggestions do let me know. The date will be : OCTOBER 21 2017.

The Legion has received funding to do a lot of work on the building so there will be new washrooms, chairs and so on, all ready for our party! This will be an occasion to celebrate. We certainly didn’t think at the first event that we would be still be going 15 years later!! Thanks to everyone who has supported us all this time.

Very importantly thanks so very much to my dear friends who do the door, carry, lift, fix, organize, pick up, clear up and anything else that is needed to be done to help me, couldn’t do it without you.

Keep dancin’! xxx
